ESFA Learning Support Funding

Overview:

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) provides Learning Support Funding to help apprentices in the UK who have learning difficulties, disabilities (LDD), or are neurodivergent. This funding ensures that apprentices receive the support they need to succeed in their training programmes, creating an inclusive learning environment.

What Is ESFA Learning Support Funding?

Learning Support Funding (LSF) from the ESFA helps education and training providers offer tailored support to apprentices with identified learning needs. This support can include extra tutor time, assistive technology, and adjustments to the training programme. The goal is to ensure that all apprentices can fully participate in and benefit from their training.

How to Access Learning Support Funding

To access Learning Support Funding, follow these steps:

  • Identification and Assessment:
Apprentices who may need extra support are identified. This includes those without prior diagnoses of learning difficulties. A detailed assessment is carried out to determine their specific needs.
  • Application and Evidence:
Training providers must include information about apprentices needing support in their individualised learner record (ILR). A claim for funding can be made after a screening exercise identifies learning difficulties or disabilities. If reasonable adjustments are needed, they should be documented and implemented with the apprentice's consent.
  • Ongoing Support and Monthly Evidence:
Providers must document and provide ongoing support, with monthly evidence of the adjustments made. This ensures that apprentices receive the support they need throughout their training.

Recent updates have ensured that apprentices with hidden learning needs identified during enrolment receive support right from the start of their programmes. This shift promotes inclusivity and ensures that all apprentices have the opportunity to succeed.
